Nosadella.due came into existence through the desire to work closely with artists and curators from other countries, in an intimate and domestic dimension, independent and experimental, to foster a true comparison for the renewal of contemporary thought, his production and transmission on land, wehere leave significant traces of contemporary culture.

Situated in a private structure in the heart of the historic centre of Bologna, Nosadella.due, a residence for artists and international critics, is set up as a long-term cultural project, unique in its type in the city and the area, where find a space for current artistic expression and contemporary culture.

Its 250 square metres are designed to accomodate three bedrooms, a studio and a living room area. An emerging generation of foreign contemporary artists and critics alternate between, or inhabit these spaces for a temporary period of up to three months and are invited to realise ad hoc projects that came out through their period of residence. The project is based on a collective experience and is essentially presented as ‘home’, a domestic situation which sets in motion the dynamics of co-habitation and co-operation, which will be different each time. The intention is to create a ‘living workshop’ in which the most up-to-date research in visual arts and critique will conflux and develop, continually involving professionals and generale public in interacting with the residents. The activities of the residence, conceptualised as a contemporary culture laboratorary, are brought into effect through the production and exhibition of artists’ projects created during the period of residency and presented in external exhibition spaces; through “open studio” and workshop times and in collaboration with externally curated projects, thanks to the foreign critics who create interesting opportunities for the comparison of different artistic contexts.

Nosadella’s primary aim is to aid the international mobility of contemporary art responding to the need to stimulate interaction between different cultures and expressions that is indispensable at this present time. A further aim is create an experimental artists workshop opened to the public, which transforms art into a moment of collective identity for people of different ages, backgrounds and professions. The project also aims to actively involve public bodies and private organisations in creating a co-operative network in which ways of thinking and methodologies can be shared by partipating in new models of development.

Nosadella.due considers itself a valuable asset to the region and designs to add to the local cultural environment the opportunity of an exchange with the international contemporary art scene.

To maintain its own activities, Nosadella.due intends to collate documentation and publications taken from the hosts’ experience and have a video archive which the public can view.

Nosadella.due is a residence for international artists and curators, founded as a cultural association at the end of 2006 in Bologna. It aims to promote contemporary thought development and gives space to artistic process, through transnational mobility impulse. As an atypical reality for Italy, Nosadella.due places itself between Italy and abroad in order to come out of isolation and to create a dialog and a critic, theoretic and professional confrontation with experts and similar foreign organizations. Nosadella.due gives artists and curators the opportunity to a professional non-academic experience, inviting them to investigate and produce, through residency periods, actions, education projects and international exchanges.

Nosadella.due is settled in an apartment of Bologna historical center, where working dimension goes together with the human and relational one. First of all the residency is a sharing experience, interweaving private life spaces with interpersonal exchange ones.

The residency interior is designed for studying and working, while the exterior is the space for action. Open studio, round tables, public actions, performances, studio visits, workshops in collaboration with Fine Art Academy and Bologna University are the instruments used to dialog with the surrounding context.
Through questions it can arise thanks to its vision, it is addressed to a targeted audience, but also as wide and varied as possible, in order to give back the responsibility of active witness and thinking mind.


The residency programme for artists is addressed to up-and-coming international generation.

The residency period varies between one and three months depending on the project and one to three artists can be hosted at a time. Residency periods approximately goes from the half of September to the half of December and again from the half of April to the half of June.

In each section, during their residency period, artists are asked to develop a research in collaboration with Nosadella.due curatorial and technical staff, aiming at the realization of a site specific project deeply connected to the territory, local and national.
The artistic projects that Nosadella.due produced become a kind of Bologna/Italy "portraits" realized thank to the external gaze of the guests, The most of them are, then, often community based art projects as well as public art interventions, that is the focus of the residency programme.

Artists are selected by schools and foreign institutions or they are pointed out by critics, curators and directors operating in collaboration with Nosadella.due. The call is made at invitation. During the residency period artists can suggest actions, workshops and any kind of activities they wish to develop in town or in the territory and they can submit ideas to Nosadella.due staff who canvasses their feasibility. Artists can also be involved in workshops with students, in studio visits with curators, art dealers, directors as well as in public events, in order to promote their work and to professionally grow.

Works produced by artists during their residency – or at least some of them – get to be part of Nosadella.due collection.


The residency programme for curators was created to generate a dialogue on the current artistic expression and a debate over practices, thoughts, attitudes and projects.

The period of residence differs from 2 weeks to a month and includes two critics or curators at a time. It usually take place in conjunction with ArteFiera, between late January and early February, and in summer, between June and July.

The curators’s choice is by invitation compared to projects that Nosadella.due aims to develop in the local area, but also to cooperate in exchange with residences abroad. In fact, in addition to host the curators, the curatorial staff of Nosadella.due looks for possibilities of reciprocal exchange with other residences abroad.

The stay of foreign curators is intended as a period of research and deepening into the Italian art scene with a view to its dissemination abroad, but also as a moment of confrontation and exchange of working metologies beetwen the guests and the staff of Nosadella.due. With the guests Nosadella.due also discuss proposals for collaboration, promotion, disclosure of external curatorial projects that need the structure of residence. The intent is to facilitate the diffusion of artists’s materials, projects, foreign magazines, and merging the documentation in the Nosadella.due’s archive.

The curators are also asked to introduce their work at meetings with the public or, if they are in charge of a paublic/ private institution in their country, to present its activities during informal or official moments addressed to professionals. Therefore, Nosadella.due also offers updates on the international scene, providing opportunities knowledge to the public of art and especially to young artists.


Residency Actions
Next to the residency program, Nosadella.due periodically activates collaborations with different subjects in order to launch actions aimed at enforcing the interdisciplinary work, favoring co-planning with and on the territory, consolidating self-education processes.

Investigations for territory development, workshops with students, exhibition as part of urban festival are proposed together with targeted training actions and promotion for main international artistic scenario emergent experiences to constantly open minds to methods and creative languages experimentation.

Nosadella.due, which was established with patronage of the Region of Emilia-Romagna, the Provincial council and the Bologna City council, the Academy of Fine Art and MAMbo has been set up as long-term project with the intention of develops a reciprocal relationship between local, national and international centres, through involvement and dialogue with public and private foreign institutions.
